Bernie Puchalski from BPSN wrote an article about the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association’s (OCAA) announcement to cancel its fall sports seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic and discusses the decision with Michele O’Keefe, NC’s associate director of Athletics and Recreation.
The article mentions that sports are on hold at NC until at least Christmas 2020, but that decisions have yet to be made for sports such as volleyball and basketball that start in the fall and continue until spring.
O’Keefe believes it is critical for the college to keep its athletes engaged and interested during this time, as well as to make them feel as supported as possible. Counsellors will be available to help the students cope with on-line classes and NC’s coaches have continued training virtually using platforms such as Zoom.
