At the close of Niagara College’s first two virtual spring convocation ceremonies, Gord Howard from the Niagara Dailies wrote about highlights from day one. In the June 15 article, he mentions that upward of 10,000 people in 25 countries, including Brazil, Israel, India, Vietnam and the Netherlands, viewed the first of NC’s online convocation ceremonies Monday morning.
Howard also highlights remarks from NC president Sean Kennedy, who acknowledged the uniqueness of the current situation: “If there is one thing we have all learned over the past few months it is to be nimble, be flexible and know you will encounter many challenges over the course of your life,” he said.
Special guest speaker and six-time Canadian Olympic medalist, Clara Hughes, also spoke about overcoming obstacles and the learning opportunities that arise from going through those challenges: “When I look back at all my decades in sport and the races that I competed in, I don’t so much look at the successes,” she said. “They don’t stand out the most to me. The things that stand out are the lessons learned along the way.”
