Niagara Region Transit (NRT) has announced changes to transit services in Niagara that take effect September 3, 2019.  In order to provide increased frequency and expanded service on other routes, NRT has discontinued the NOTL Link direct bus service between Niagara College’s Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake Campuses.

The new route for students travelling between the Welland Campus and the NOTL Campus are as follows:

  • From Welland to NOTL: Take the 65 (or 65A Express) to Niagara Falls, and take the 40 (or 40A Express) to campus.
  • From NOTL to Welland: Take the 45 (or 45A Express) to Niagara Falls, and take the 60 (or 60A Express) to campus.

Students travelling between Welland and NOTL should familiarize themselves with the transit schedules and allow extra time to reach their destination. The new route between campuses will take approximately 40-45 minutes during peak travel times.

The Transit App (by Transit App, Inc.) is available for free download in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, and offers real-time route information for all municipalities and regional buses. The 2019-2020 transit routes can be found at niagararegion.ca/transit/2019/routes.aspx.

This change has allowed funds to be reallocated to increase the frequency of buses in the east side of the region between NOTL, Niagara Falls and Welland by expanding the service of the 60A Express (which will arrive every 15 minutes during peak periods) and the 45A Express (with has extended service to eliminate the mid-day break). Other transit changes announced by the NRT include the addition of late night service and more weekend service.

Questions about the scheduling and coordination of the new routes should be directed to Niagara Region Transit by calling 905-980-6000 ext. 3550, or going online.

The Niagara College Student Administrative Council (NCSAC) administers the Niagara College U-Pass, which allows eligible students unlimited transit on regional buses operated by NRT transit partners.

NCSAC continues to be a voice for students in the ongoing discussion surrounding inter-municipal transit in Niagara. Students with questions and comments regarding the transition to the regional transit service model are encouraged to contact [email protected].
