On May 20, Niagara Now published a piece on NC’s Commercial Cannabis Production program (CCP), the first of its kind in both the province and the country.
The story includes interviews with NC professor Sebastien Jacob, CCP students Kaitlynn Anderson and Josh Weiss, and CannTrust’s director of cultivation and NC alumnus, Nick Phelan.
Jacob speaks to the demand for trained grads in the industry, explaining that many of the students – all 24 of which who are employed – are working where they did their co-op placements. Jacob also explains that the program was developed in partnership with industry including CannTrust.
Anderson, who came to the CCP program after a degree in agricultural economics, cites the benefits of the program’s hands-on nature. She is now working as a master grower at a micro cultivator.
Weiss describes the breadth of employment opportunities, from specialty fields like oil extraction, research integrated pest management, quality assurance and more.
