Message from Vincent Shaikh, Dean, Media, Trades and Technology Division.
It is with mixed emotions that I announce the upcoming retirement of Jane Koetsier, who has been the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Media Trades and Technology since 2010. Jane started working at Niagara College in the continuing education department in 1969 as a high school graduate. She spent two years at Niagara College before deciding to start her adventures abroad, travelling to Europe, getting married and having two sons in Holland.
She returned to the College in mid-1980’s, working part-time for Foster Zanutto in marketing. Full time employment outside the College took Jane away from us for a while, before an opportunity in the job center brought her back in 1997 part-time and eventually in 2000 as receptionist full-time.
Jane never looked back, always enjoying her job and co-workers, she has been an effective employee in many areas of the college holding various positions supporting the administration. Jane won the Niagara Champion Award in 2010 and the Support Staff Award of Excellence in 2012.
Her responsibilities expanded beyond Niagara College where she served as executive assistant on the National Council of Deans of Technology and the Council of Deans of Trades and Apprenticeship Canada. These organizations, in addition to her involvement with divisional program advisory committees, provided Jane the opportunity to develop strong relationships inside and outside of the organization.
Retirement holds excitement for Jane as her first two grandchildren are expected in March and July. Her newfound love of photography will come in handy for all those baby photos!
Please join us in wishing Jane well on her new ventures at a reception that will take place on Monday, March 11 in IC209 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
