To honour Black History Month, Niagara College is inviting students and employees to take part in a special learning opportunity that explores the people, places and events that shaped Black history in the Niagara region.
On February 24 from 10 to 11 a.m., NC alumna and NC Distinguished Alumni Award recipient Rochelle Bush will present Niagara’s Freedom Trail: Discovering Significant People, Places and Events, a talk highlighting three centuries of Black history in Niagara.
Owner of Tubman Tours Canada, Bush will explore significant historical events, abolitionist activity, notable Underground Railroad freedom seekers and important structures featured along Niagara’s Freedom Trail.
Bush has spent more than 25 years preserving and sharing Canada’s Black history. Born and raised in St. Catharines, she has played a key role in promoting Niagara’s Freedom Trail and developing educational tours that deepen public understanding of the Underground Railroad, including the Harriet Tubman Tour, which highlights Tubman’s time in the city.
This hybrid event will take place via Zoom and in person at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake (Room N018).
Please register in advance.
