I am pleased to invite applications for membership on Niagara College’s Research Ethics Board (REB). The REB plays a critical role in ensuring that all research involving human participants conducted under the College’s auspices adheres to the highest ethical standards.
We are currently seeking new members from among our faculty, support staff, managers, associate deans, and associate directors who have expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Relevant research fields and methodologies
- Ethics principles
- Applicable laws
Why Join
Serving on the REB offers a unique opportunity to expand your expertise in research ethics, gain valuable experience in regulatory compliance, and contribute to shaping ethical research practices at Niagara College. It also fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and professional development while providing insight into a wide range of research projects across the institution.
Commitment & Expectations
REB members are responsible for reviewing research applications to ensure compliance with ethical guidelines, particularly the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2). The REB reports to the College President and has the authority to approve, reject, and propose modifications to or terminate any proposed or ongoing research involving human participants.
- Term: Two years (renewable)
- Meetings: Held as needed (virtually via Microsoft Teams or in-person), September to June
- Review Responsibilities:
- Delegated Review: For minimal-risk research, which makes up most reviews, a subset of 2 REB members evaluates applications outside of full board meetings, alternating among members
- Full Board Review: For research with greater potential ethical concerns or risks, the entire REB meets to conduct a thorough evaluation.
How to Apply
Interested? Submit your resume and cover letter detailing how you meet the criteria to [email protected] by Friday, March 28, 2025.
We appreciate all applications; however, only selected candidates will be contacted for an interview.
Thank you to all past, present, and future REB members for your dedication to ethical research at Niagara College!
