Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is celebrated across Asia and marks the beginning of a new year following the traditional lunar calendar. In 2025, the festival starts on January 29. Traditionally, it honours gods and ancestors and symbolizes the end of winter and the arrival of spring, representing new beginnings. Customs and traditions vary by region, but decorating homes in red to attract good luck, fortune, and protection is a widely observed practice.

Niagara College proudly celebrates the diverse cultural traditions of its student body. For over 20 years, NC has hosted Lunar New Year events, welcoming students and guests to join in honoring this important holiday.

By celebrating its multicultural student community with events like the Lunar New Year Dinner, Niagara College continues to bring the world to Niagara.
