On December 2, Craig Youdale, Niagara College’s Dean of Culinary, Tourism, and Beverage Studies joined Walter Sendzik on CKTB to discuss NC’s new Student Experience Scholarship Fund that will support scholarship awards for select students from the schools of Culinary Arts, Hospitality and Tourism, and Wine, Beer and Spirits.
In lieu of leaving a gratuity for service at Benchmark restaurant or special event hosted by the Culinary, Tourism and Beverage Studies division, guests will be encouraged to donate to the Student Experience Scholarship Fund.
During the interview, Youdale explains how the new Scholarship Fund came about: “Coming out of Covid and relaunching Benchmark, we didn’t include tipping…and we wanted to focus on student learning and less about making money. But, we also new in back of our minds we wanted to introduce the Scholarship Fund…and find ways to support students who have the burden of paying tuition, rent, affording to live. Instead of having a prompt tip when you come to have lunch at Benchmark…, we created the Scholarship Fund…so [visitors can support lots of different studnets].”
