NC Engage: Announcing the College’s new student engagement app

A message from Dr. Chris McGrath, Vice President, Students:

I am pleased to announce the upcoming launch of an initiative that will enhance the wholistic student experience at Niagara College.

Led by the Student Engagement team with support from the Information and Technology Services (ITS) department, NC Engage is the College’s new student engagement app.

NC Engage is the College’s new student engagement app

The app is replacing the existing Get Involved portal to provide a platform that reaches students on their mobile devices – allowing them convenient access to the exciting opportunities available to them outside of the classroom that benefit their NC experience.

As the College’s official student engagement platform, NC Engage will continue to provide students with an integrated listing of college-wide and community events and workshops, as well as a central location for accessing their Co-Curricular Record (CCR), where they can track their participation in activities and log volunteer hours.

The app will also offer new features that will enhance the ability for departments college-wide to promote their initiatives including: a centralized events calendar; event creation, marketing, registration, and management capabilities; group creation for advertising department services, clubs, or programming, reporting tools and analytics, and more. Other exciting features include peer-to-peer networking to help cultivate a sense of belonging and community among students.

A soft launch of the new app will take place beginning on July 2 with a group of students on campus this summer. These students will explore the app’s features and provide valuable feedback that the project team will use to further test and refine the app prior to its full launch on September 4 for the start of the fall term.

I would like to thank the project team for their work on this innovative platform and recognize the areas involved in the soft launch including Academic Advising and Career Services, Athletics and Student Engagement, International, the Library and Learning Commons, NCSAC and Sustainability.

At this time, the team is looking for other departments to participate in the full launch. Please reach out to Nimisha Sumathi at [email protected] if you feel that your area would benefit from the use of NC Engage.

The team will also be hosting virtual and in-person training sessions in July for employees who would like to find out more about the app for their departments ahead of the fall term. Please watch for information about the sessions, including how to register.

Later this summer, we will begin broader promotions to incoming students, inviting them to download NC Engage (available for iOS or Android devices) and providing them with instruction on how to make the most of the app. A web-based version is also available.
