On June 13, Niagara-on-the-Lake Local published an article that mentioned the work a group of environmental students from Niagara College who conducted a life cycle assessment of wine bottles as part of figuring out how Stratus Vineyards can reuse wine bottles.
After measuring everything from electricity, water and fuel for the farm, to how much carbon it takes to make glass wine bottles and the shipping involved, students calculated that the wine bottle is one of the most carbon-intensive aspects of the winery.
