We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Jeffrey Ko, full-time Professor in the School of Nursing and Personal Support Worker (PSW) Studies, has been elected as Board of Director for the College of Nurses (CNO) Council. This achievement marks the first time an NC staff or faculty member has been elected to hold a seat on the council.
“As a representative of NC and the Central Western Region in CNO, I will be the voice to promote public safety,” said Dr. Ko. “I am elated and hoping that I can bring change to our profession.”
The CNO Council plays a critical role in regulating nursing practice in Ontario, with members elected by their peers and appointed public representatives. Dr. Ko’s appointment to the council includes roles on the Disciplinary Committee and Fit to Practice Committee. The Disciplinary Committee conducts hearings in cases involving serious allegations of professional misconduct or incompetence, while the Fit to Practice Committee determines the capacity of nurses and necessary actions to protect the public.

Having started his full-time teaching role at the College in August 2022, following several years of part-time teaching, Dr. Ko has consistently demonstrated his dedication to excellence in nursing education. He recently played a pivotal leadership role as the program’s Brightspace Champion, overseeing the implementation of the new learning management system. Recognized for his contributions, Dr. Ko was also awarded the 2021-2022 part-time Educator of the Year Award by NCSAC.
“It is truly incredible for Niagara College to have representation on this important council for nursing in our province,” said Courtney Evers, Associate Dean, School of Nursing & PSW Studies. “Dr. Ko will be able to offer not only his expertise in nursing education, but also his many years of experience across clinical areas such as critical care, emergency, diabetes education, and infection control.”
Dr. Ko’s dedication to advancing the nursing profession and ensuring public safety shines through his appointment to the CNO council. Please join us in extending our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Jeffrey Ko on this remarkable achievement.
