Niagara College’s Construction and Renovation Technology students were featured in Habitat for Humanity Niagara’s 2023 Year in Review. The feature was included in the volunteer contributions section, highlighting the integral role of volunteers in supporting the organization’s mission of providing affordable housing solutions to those in need.

The feature spotlights an event in May 2023 when students from the Construction and Renovation Technology program lent their expertise to assist in completing a Habitat for Humanity home in Thorold. Under the guidance of Professor Craig Brown, a former Habitat Niagara employee, seven students in the final term of their program, installed door and window casements and crafted and installed trim pieces. Their contributions played a crucial role in preparing the home for its upcoming home dedication ceremony.
The partnership between Habitat Niagara and NC’s Community Integration through Cooperative Education (CICE) program was also highlighted. Designed to enhance employability for students with disabilities, the CICE program continued to be an important partner for Habitat Niagara in 2023 through completing placements at all three Habitat Niagara’s ReStores. In honour of their impactful partnership, the CICE program received Habitat Niagara’s Education Partner Star Award during National Volunteer Week.
These experiences exemplify NC’s commitment to community engagement and hands-on learning, fostering a culture where students not only gain valuable skills but also make meaningful contributions to the wider community.
