NC dental students will get into the spirit of Dental Assistants Recognition Week March 3-10.

Don’t miss their event on Wednesday, March 6 in the AHI Foyer beginning at 9 a.m (until 11 a.m.).

Attendees will have the opportunity to explore various oral health-related topics, engage in games, and connect with the more than 40 Dental Assisting students eager to share their knowledge from this year. Samples and prizes will be provided to support students in enhancing their oral health care habits.

“Our aim is to highlight the importance of oral health within the community,” said Jennifer Karnay, School of Allied Health Professor. “We’re constantly seeking ways to enhance awareness about oral health care, potentially cultivating new strategies and habits that enhance overall oral health.”

Karnay noted that the aim of DA Week is to honor dental assistants as vital members of the oral health care team, highlighting the significance of oral health and its correlation with overall well-being.

“Through celebration and education, they gain insight into the sense of community within the office environment and among the patients they care for daily. As indispensable members of the dental team, they rightfully deserve recognition and celebration,” she said.

Karnay said taking part in Dental Assistant Recognition Week helps the students to understand and develop a sense of community within their new chosen profession.

“They combine information from all their classes that can help different demographics improve their oral health with tips and tricks to make oral health care easier,” said Karnay. “The students utilize a combination of theoretical and practical skills to communicate the knowledge they have gained to real-world patient situations.

“This acquired knowledge helps the students engage in important conversations with community members while helping them develop essential critical thinking skills needed for entry into a community dental practice.”

Students are encouraging the NC community to come by and visit March 6 beginning 9 a.m. and to follow along with their oral health care posts on social media. Follow ‘ncdaweek2024’ on Instagram.
