Fueled by her passion to help people reach their health and wellness goals, Taran Kular is graduating from NC’s Massage Therapy Program eager to pursue her vocation and her ambitious career aspirations.

We catch up with Taran to learn about what drew her to NC, what she loved most about her time here and where she’s headed.

How do you feel about your upcoming convocation day/ what does it personally mean to you?

It’s definitely a long-awaited day. It’s another step closer to reaching my future goals.

What were you doing before attending NC (did you enroll after high school, did you study at another postsecondary institution, or were you working)?

I had multiple jobs after high school in hopes of enrolling in a program that was compatible with my lifestyle and goals for the future. I knew I wanted to be in a healthcare setting and was trying to decide what pathway I should take in order to enter into a career that would fulfill my career goals.

What led you to study at NC and to your program of study?

I always knew I wanted to work in a clinic setting that involved helping clients reach their health goals, and this program has brought me closer to achieving that.

What interests you in / why are you passionate about your field of study?

I grew up around hard working family members who didn’t know how to prioritize their health and I want to be able to help teach individuals that taking care of your body is the most important job you will ever have.

Do you have a specific career goal in mind when you enrolled in your program… did it change since you started?

I would eventually like to have my own business.

What did you find rewarding about your program / area of study? Does something stand out to you that you will never forget about your time at NC?

The on-campus clinic and outreach events have been a great part of my college experience. Meeting the community and seeing how they get closer to reaching their long-term health goals with every visit is very rewarding to witness.

Did you work a placement or co-op as part of your program?

Aside from the on-campus Massage Therapy Clinic run by students, we also went out into the community to participate in a variety of events and provide curated treatment plans as per client needs. These experiences allowed us to see different environments in which a registered massage therapist could work in.

Do you feel your NC experience has helped prepare you for the future? (if so, please tell us how)?

Yes, I feel NC has prepared me for the future. Not only the course material but also the advice and personal experiences that the staff shared was highly appreciated.

What have you been doing since you completed your studies at NC?

I currently work at the Massage Therapy Clinic at the Welland Campus as I study for my board exams. Once I get licensed, I plan on working at a multi-disciplinary clinic.

What’s next for you /are you working/ or working towards a career goal or are you planning to pursue further education?

For now, I’m visiting different clinics in an effort to find an environment most compatible with my workstyle. Hopefully I can start a business on my own down the line, and possibly even step into teaching massage therapy at a college.
