Expertise from Niagara College was recently showcased at a Thorold-based eminar, Aging Well Longer with Technology for Older Adults and Caregivers.
Christine Wilkinson, Research Lead for NC’s’s Healthy Aging and Wellness Innovation Centre, presented at the event with few robotic friends in tow. She brought Flo and Coco, a pair of furry seals that have visited long-term care homes in Niagara to interact with residents, including those with dementia.
In the article, Wilkinson explained that the therapeutic use of robotic animals has been shown to benefit patients with dementia by reducing agitation, increasing quality of life and bringing out positive emotions.
The event was held on Oct. 14, at the 50+ Centre in Thorold.
