For Chloe Baltus, graduating from the Police Foundations program is an important reminder of how far she’s come, and of the support she has received along the way from professors, peers and loved ones. As she prepares to cross the stage at convocation on June 9, she’s looking ahead to a future in health care, with plans to further her NC education.

Baltus is this year’s recipient of the Dean’s Award for the School of Justice & Fitness, earning the highest grade point average in her respective school.

Q&A with Chloe Baltus:

How do you feel about your upcoming convocation day and what does it personally mean to you?

Reflecting on convocation is a reminder of just how capable we are and how much we can accomplish when we have people rooting for us to succeed, for me that was my professors, peers and those closest to me.

How did you find your program experience – any highlights?

Our second-year labs (especially conflict management) are what inspired me to open myself up to career options that I thought I would be too shy for by giving me the tools and confidence to insert myself when necessary and manage crises effectively and empathetically.

Do you feel your NC experience has helped prepare you for the future?

Being at NC has forced me out of my shell and has afforded me the opportunity to find my love for learning and make some lifelong friends during my time at NC.

What’s next for you? Are you working or working towards a career goal or are you planning to pursue further education?

I was originally going to pursue the bridging program from police foundations to Niagara Universities Criminology program but have since decided to apply to NC’s Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

Any other info you feel is important and would like to share?

No education is a waste and there is no such thing as a “correct” timeline! Pursue your passions, change directions when necessary and learn something along the way.
