Learning Opportunities offered through Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
Intro to EDI: This four-part learning series will provide you with a foundational understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion that will support you in identifying how you can contribute to this work in your role at NC.
• Module 1-Introduction to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion – Tues., Oct 15, 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
• Module 2-Microaggressions: Intent vs. Impact – Tues., Oct 29, 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
• Module 3-Cultural Humility – Tues., Nov 12, 10:00 am to 11:30 a.m.
• Module 4-Allyship – Tues., Dec 10, 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
Positive Space 2.0: Offered in partnership with the Centre for Academic Excellence, this workshop will provide participants the opportunity to expand their knowledge of trans and gender diverse lived experiences and put that awareness into action by challenging harmful disinformation.
• Positive Space 2.0 – Wed., Oct. 16, 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
Intro to Anti-Racism: This session will define and highlight the importance of anti-racism, distinguish between non-racism and anti-racism, and identify ways participants can practice anti-racism. Through reflection and discussion, participants will consider connections between their work at the college and anti-racism and identify ways they can practice anti-racism in their role at NC.
• Introduction to Anti-Racism – Thurs., Nov 21, 2:00 to 3:30 p.m.
Employee VR Accessibility Session: Join us for an immersive experience in perspective-taking using Oculus Quest II VR headsets or via a PC version. Participants will engage in virtual simulations that allow them to interact with characters from diverse backgrounds and scenarios set on post-secondary campuses. These simulations focus on various barriers, including physical, architectural, and attitudinal challenges, and guide learners through choices on how to respond to ableism.
