With our College positioned to make transformational investments in the success of our students, I am pleased to share that we have finalized an updated Master Plan – providing Niagara College with a bold, long-term guide for growth and future development at our Niagara-based campuses.

The Master Plan provides a vision for our campuses that includes investments in significant projects over the next decade including new and renovated buildings and spaces.

One of our first priorities will be to renovate and make improvements to our existing residence buildings at both campuses and to begin projects to expand on-campus housing, to help address the housing shortage within Niagara and to enhance the student experience.

The updated Master Plan builds on the extensive planning and consultation process that began in 2019 and helped to form the six vision statements that are the foundation of our Campus Master Plan. Our plan envisions campus environments that:

  • Invite and showcase
  • Embrace pride of place
  • Engage and innovate
  • Are diverse and welcoming
  • Are trailblazing and lead change
  • Drive economic growth

The updated Master Plan incorporates important lessons learned over the course of the pandemic and supports the changing needs of our students and employees and the ongoing evolution of how we deliver our programs and services.

The update also aligns with our 2022-2027 Strategic Plan, ensuring that our capital planning reflects our key areas of focus and actions – spaces that support a wholistic student experience and academic excellence, our global reach, and operational excellence; and are engaging, accessible and sustainable.

We are excited to undertake projects that will enhance student experience, teaching and learning, and our ability to address the needs of employers locally and beyond. Many of these projects will also enable us to revitalize and expand employee workspaces in new or renovated buildings.

In addition to the residence projects, planning is underway on the Welland Campus for expanded skilled trades, applied health and media facilities, and an outdoor recreation space. At the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake, we will soon break ground on a next generation greenhouse, while developing plans for additional student, learning and employee spaces, along with an extension of our Wine Visitor + Education Centre to enhance the visitor experience.

With its long-term view, the Master Plan is a living document that leverages Niagara College’s longstanding ability to anticipate and adapt to emerging changes and trends, and positions our College to succeed – and lead – in a time of significant transformation.

Please watch for more information this fall – including the launch of a Master Plan website. Over the summer months, we’ll also share further details regarding Project Refresh, which will undertake important upgrades and renovations in classrooms, labs and key student gathering areas on both campuses.

Just as we’ve made historic investments in our people and innovation through record hiring and initiatives like the Dream Big Fund, I look forward to advancing our Strategic Plan goals through these exciting capital projects that will truly transform our learning environments, student spaces and workplaces.
