Niagara College President Sean Kennedy.

As we return from the holiday break I would like to offer my best wishes for a Happy New Year and a successful Winter term, which I know has been an exceptionally busy period thus far in response to strong enrolment trends for the January intake. I hope that, like me, you are looking forward to 2023 with excitement and enthusiasm as we bring bold plans and strong momentum into the year ahead.

As I announced in late December, I am pleased to welcome Gord Arbeau, who joins Niagara College as Vice President, Advancement starting today.

Gord comes to us from Brock University, where he was Associate Vice President, University Advancement and External Relations, and he now leads a new portfolio at NC that brings together Corporate Communications, Development and Alumni Relations, and Community Relations and Events. Gord is an experienced and accomplished postsecondary leader who, through the new Advancement division, will provide key supports for our ambitious strategic plan goals for the future by enhancing our strong reputation, growing our endowments and raising funds in support of our students and learning environments along with enhanced alumni and partner engagement.

As Gord begins his new role, I am also pleased to provide these additional organizational updates:

  • Carly Root, Manager, Community Relations and Events, who has led the execution of college-wide events and supported community relations in the Office of the President, will lead a new Community Relations and Events department within the Advancement portfolio;
  • Jana Boniferro, who as Alumni Engagement Officer has facilitated connection and engagement with our alumni community, has taken on the role of Interim Manager, Development and Alumni Relations;
  • Jennifer Murphy, who provides key supports to Vice President Marc Nantel as Executive Assistant, has taken on additional responsibilities as Executive Assistant to the Vice President, Advancement on an interim basis.

Finally, with the move of Development and Alumni Relations to Advancement, the former Research and External Relations portfolio, led by Vice President Marc Nantel, becomes the Research, Innovation and Strategic Enterprises division, which includes research and innovation, government relations, and the Niagara College Learning Enterprise Corporation (NCLEC).

Please join me in extending a warm Niagara College welcome to Gord, and congratulating Marc, Carly, Jana and Jennifer on their new roles.
