On November 2, a group of Grade 9 students – 13 at the Welland Campus and 15 at the Daniel. J Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus – got a sneak peek at college life as part of Take our Kids to Work Day at Niagara College.

The event offered children of NC employees a chance to visit the college for the day, see where their parents work, and learn more about the programs offered. Members of the College’s Human Resources team, organized by Darren Williams, Rebecca Coleman, Devra Edwards and Marie Mesic, led the young visitors through a series of activities that showcase programs and opportunities available at Niagara College.

Students at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus enjoyed interactive activities from a variety of program areas. At the Teaching Greenhouse, students made their own personal planter of succulents. Students were also given a tour of the Research and Innovation department where they learned about the process of making soda and were able to use their creativity to mix their own.

Students at the Welland Campus participated in several tours including the Photonics Lab, School of Trades, Broadcasting, and Athletics. On the Photonics tour, students learned about career opportunities, applications of photonics, and the growing demand in the field. In the trades, students used the lighting boards to turn on engines. They toured the radio studio and broadcasting control room to learn about the evolving media industry. In Athletics, they toured the gym, fitness centre and varsity locker rooms.
