Know a student who would thrive in a leadership role?

The Niagara College Student Administrative Council (NCSAC) is asking for your help in identifying student leaders to run in the 2022-2023 NCSAC General Elections.

NCSAC represents the student voice at NC and through the election process, a new NCSAC Board of Directors is appointed each year to encourage fresh perspectives from NC’s largest group of stakeholders: its students. In working with NCSAC, student leaders have the opportunity to bring important issues forward for their peers, learn good governance, sharpen their leadership skills and contribute to the betterment of all NC students.

Outgoing Director of CFWI and Vice-chair of the NCSAC Board Marianna Spivak noted that her experience over the past year has given her a new perspective about what student government means.

“As a board member there are many opportunities to showcase what we at NCSAC do for the students,” said Spivak, who is in her final term in NC’s Winery and Viticulture Technician program. “Through social media outreach, organized events, and several services and programs, I can honestly say that NCSAC does everything in their power to make the student experience the best it can be.”

Timelines and positions

The self-nomination period begins February 7 at 9 a.m. and students have until February 18 at 4 p.m. to complete the online form. After the nomination process is complete, students will then head to the polls from March 14-17 to cast their votes. Election results will be announced on March 18.

NCSAC Board of Director role

There are 12 board positions available with one student selected from each school of study at Niagara College. Each director works within their school of study, connects with their associate deans and create links back to NCSAC. While directors draw some of their attention to their schools of study, their primary focus will be the larger college collective as they work towards advancing the organization and enhancing NCSAC’s presence at the college.

Note: The nomination process for the position of NCSAC President has closed.

Niagara College Board of Governor Student Representative

The NC BOG is responsible for defining the role and mission of the college, and as such, plays a huge role in setting the future path for the college. Students represent the largest group of stakeholders at the college and student governors play a significant role on the board. Board meetings provide the opportunity for student governors to provide their perspective on high-level strategic issues facing their college, and participate in discussions on important matters.

If you know a full-time student who is passionate about making a difference, please encourage them to get involved with NCSAC through a leadership role.

For students looking for advice before embarking on the process, Spivak has some words of wisdom. “Be the representative that you would cast your vote for and be confident every step of the way,” she said. “It is very intimidating to put your name forth and to run in the election, but having the confidence in yourself to be able to put that foot forward is one of the best qualities that voters will look for in you.”

An online FAQ is also available to help answer any questions you, or the student, may have about the process.
