Thursday January 28, 2021 marks the 11th annual Bell Let’s Talk Day, an important event dedicated to raising awareness and combating stigma surrounding mental illness in Canada.
In a time where social isolation, loneliness and anxiety are already contributing to increasing mental heath issues, I know that the COVID-19 pandemic is creating additional challenges for members of our community.
If you are struggling, know that you are not alone. I encourage you to ask for help and to take advantage of the resources available to Niagara College employees, including the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP), Sun Life’s Mental Health Strategy Toolkit and ongoing COE webinars and articles designed to support our employees during these uncertain times.
Since its inception, the Bell Let’s Talk Day campaign has raised more than $100 million for mental health in Canada. This year, Bell will contribute 5¢ for every applicable text, call, tweet or TikTok video using #BellLetsTalk, social media video view and use of their Facebook frame or Snapchat filter. On January 28, Niagara College will also turn to social media to participate and share supportive messages in honour of Bell Let’s Talk Day and I’m pleased to lend my voice to the campaign. You can watch my video by clicking here.
Bell Let’s Talk Day is an important reminder that together we can end the stigma of mental illness by supporting those struggling in our community. Remember, we are #NCTogether and we are here to help.
