Gord Howard with The St. Catharines Standard reported on a fundraising-meets-experiential-learning initiative by Niagara College students in the Business – Sales and Marketing program.

Partnering with Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold, and for the fifth year, NC students were tasked with finding creative ways to sell toques in support of the national Raising the Roof homelessness-prevention campaign. From January to early March, approximately 300 students participated.

Monique Finley, professor in the program, explains NC’s focus on applied learning in that students design their own campaigns, employing the selling techniques, empathy and understanding they learn in the program.

“Niagara College is very, very big on what we’re going to call experiential learning, where it’s more than just being taught… They experience it in a real-life setting. We want the students to experience the whole selling process,” said Finley.
