A message from Information Technology Services:
On the heels of Cyber Security Awareness month in October, November 30 marks World Computer Security day, a chance for all of us at Niagara College to reflect on how we can better protect ourselves, our families and our networks online.
As we near the end of 2019, take steps to secure your computer/devices and your precious data.
Here’s a check-list to consider for both your personal devices at home, and the College devices you use on campus:
- Do you have automatic updates enabled?
- Do you have antivirus software installed and running?
- Do you have a personal firewall enabled?
- Is the software on your computer up to date?
- Are you using strong passwords?
- Do you require a password in order to access your computer and devices?
- Is your home wireless network secured?
- Is your important data (files, photographs) backed up regularly?
- Do you use caution when browsing the Internet?
- Do you log off or lock your computer when not using it?
- Do you remove temporary Internet files periodically?
