Canadian Insider: Interior designers of Canada celebrate Gow Hastings, designers of NC’s Student Commons

On September 13, Interior Designers of Canada presented the Value of Design Awards at its second annual Design Symposium in Vancouver, B.C. Among the winners was Gow Hastings, winning in the category of ‘Innovation in Institutional/Educational/Civic Design’ for their work on NC’s Student Commons.

The awards recognize winners who push the boundaries of interior design, and implement empathetic, inventive and iterative process focused on the human experience, sustainability and functional design.

NC’s Student Commons renovation project saw the transformation of a large gymnasium into a welcoming, flexible and collaborative space divided into flexible zones where students can eat, socialize and study. The renovation was part of the $65 million Campus Redevelopment project, which is creating new and expanded facilities at the Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake campuses to support growth, enhance the student experience, and expand Niagara College’s research and innovation capabilities.
