To celebrate National Dental Hygienists Week, 51 senior students from the Dental Hygiene program are organizing a carnival-type event. This event will be held in the Applied Health Institute Foyer at the Welland Campus, on April 9, 2019; from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.
Event proceeds will be donated to Quest Dental Clinic, a government-run dental clinic for those who cannot afford dental care. The event this year will be different from previous years, as it will not feature educational booths. Instead, it will be more of a celebration with games, prizes and a large bake sale to raise money and awareness for those who need dental care.
Alaina Gauthier, Professor – Dental Hygiene, believes that such an event will allow students to fully endorse their future profession.
“Advocacy is one of the building blocks of the dental hygiene profession,” says Gauthier, “This event will enable students to communicate with the school community regarding their future career; raise money for people who cannot afford dental care, and spread the word about oral health and wellness.”
