Just days before Canada Day, students from around the world began their own Canadian journey at NC’s Short-Term English for Academic Preparation (EAP) orientation June 28 and 29 at the Welland Campus.
In addition to introductions to the program itself, students hailing from Colombia, Taiwan, China, Venezuela and elsewhere learned about life at NC and life in Canada, including housing, food, support systems, social and academic life, and health and insurance systems in Canada.
The EAP program strengthens the English Language skills of NC’s International students, with the ultimate goal of preparing them for the workforce or allowing them to continue their studies at Niagara College. Short Term EAP focuses on English language essentials for students who wish strengthen their skills but are unable to attend the full semester of studies. Overall, the program has been offered for over 20 years and welcomes over 300 students each term from approximately 25 different countries.
Following the sessions, students were treated to tours of Niagara Falls including a voyage beneath the falls through Hornblower Niagara Cruises, as well as a shopping trip at the Niagara Outlet Collection.
