Attention craft beer and barbecue lovers: get fired up for April 12.
That will be the date for Niagara College’s first Craft Beer and BBQ Festival.
The entire community is invited to this all-ages outdoor tent event to be held at NC’s Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus, near the NC Teaching Brewery, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Guests can purchase tickets to sample grub from some of the world’s top barbecue chefs. NC chef professor, an award-winning chef and grilling expert Ted Reader will be in good company with world-famous barbecue chefs Ray Lampe, Eric Martinez, Timoth Grandinetti, Danielle Bennett Dimovski, Andy Annat and Sue Torres.
Twelve Ontario craft breweries will be on site including Niagara Oast House Brewers, Silversmith Brewing, Black Oak Brewing Company, Beau’s All Natural Brewing Co., Left Field Brewery, Gananoque Brewing Company, Collingwood Brewery, Mill St. Brewery, Nickel Brook Brewery, Sawdust City Brewery, Flying Monkeys, and Railway City Brewing Company will be on site. I.D., as well as the purchase of a festival glass and tokens will be required for beer service.
The event is being organized by Niagara College’s Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management students as part of their Sales and Promotions course. Guests will be able to taste the ‘final exams’ of 23 second-year Brewmaster students whose beers will be judged in an on-site competition at the event. The top three finalists will be invited to attend the Canadian Brewing Awards in Fredericton where the winner will receive a full one-year scholarship of $5,000 from Taps.
Culinary students will be involved in a barbecue competition at the festival, sponsored by Green Egg that will be judged by expert barbecue chefs.
The festival will also include tutored tastings, tours of the newly expanded NC Teaching Brewery as well as demonstrations.
