A message from Rick Anderson, director, Student Services:
I’m very pleased to announce some recent additions to the First Nations, Métis and Inuit Student Services Team.
Donna Gerber is our new full-time Aboriginal liaison and recruitment manager. Donna joined the First Nations Métis and Inuit Student Services team in February and she’s settling in very quickly. She is located at the Welland Campus in S104 and her extension number is 7414. Donna brings a strong background in working with Aboriginal students, having worked in the field of Aboriginal Education for the past 14 years.
Donna holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Wilfrid Laurier University, a Bachelor of Education degree in Aboriginal Adult Education from Brock University, and is completing her Master’s of Education degree this spring.
Since 2007 Donna has been employed by the Upper Grand District School Board as the lead for First Nation, Métis, and Inuit education and Equity and Inclusion. Prior to this role, Donna served as executive director of Anishnabeg Outreach, and has also coordinated the Native Literacy Program for the Niagara Regional Native Centre, as well as their Aboriginal Head Start program.
Donna is a strong advocate for community development, and is pleased to be back working with the Niagara Aboriginal community.
We also have a new full-time Aboriginal student success advisor, Louise Hickey. Louise joined the First Nations Métis and Inuit Student Services team back in December. She is also located at the Welland Campus in S104 and her extension number is 7774. Louise possesses an extensive background in both academic and career advising. She is an accredited Life Skills coach and recently completed her M.A. with a double major in Literary and Cultural Studies.
Louise is no stranger to Niagara College, as she taught in our Liberal Arts and Sciences department before moving on to Mohawk College and then on to the Fort Erie Native Friendship Centrex.
Please join me in welcoming both Louise and Donna into their new positions at Niagara College.
