Message from the presidents: support SAC’s Food For Friends drive

Dan PattersonThe Niagara College Student Administrative Council (NCSAC) is holding its annual “Food for Friends-Dare2Care” food drive. We are asking for donations in the form of non-perishable food items and toiletries.

Our first Food for Friends drive took place in 1994 under the leadership of Larry Coté, a now retired professor from the School of Business. The annual food drive and the Student Assistance Fund-Emergency (SAFE), was established by OPSEU 242 on behalf of past Niagara College faculty members. We have received generous donations from staff and various groups including OPSEU 242, OPSEU 243 and the Administrative Staff Association.

Katryna McKennaIn our efforts to continue assisting students and the community, the Niagara College Student Administrative Council created the SAC Cares Program which has allowed us to broaden our horizons and reach more students through various support programs.

The Student Emergency Food Bank services over 700 students a year, many of whom are not one-time visitors. By participating in our annual fundraising efforts, you are making a commitment to help improve the quality of life for students at Niagara College. All non-perishable foods are welcome. We like to stock items that are as nutritious as possible and keep hearty meals in mind when compiling our food bags for students. Personal hygiene items such as shampoo, tissues, toothpaste and soap are greatly appreciated. We have plenty of students with young families. Items such as: baby food, cereal, juice boxes and granola bars are greatly appreciated for our students with dependents.

As departments and divisions begin staff holiday planning, please consider activities related to fund (or food) raising that will benefit the SAC Cares support programs. To be environmentally friendly this year, we will not be supplying plastic bags therefore we ask that any donations be dropped off at your SAC office or placed in the drop-off boxes which will be located throughout the college hallways. Please contact us if you need help bringing in your food items – we are happy to assist.

Through the SAC Cares Program, the Niagara College Student Administrative Council is dedicated to ensuring our students are well nourished.  For further information, please contact the SAC office.

Sincerely,

Dan Patterson, President
