Niagara College marked Earth Hour today with displays at the Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake Campuses, designed to highlight this year’s theme of “I will if you will.” The interactive displays asked students and staff to think about how they can go beyond earth our and reduce, re-use and recycle. Visitors signed a display and added commitments and ideas for sustainability and environmental responsibility, and were invited to sign NC’s sustainability pledge.
A group of students and staff also toured the facilities in the afternoon, shutting off lights and taking an inventory of empty rooms where lights had been left on.
Organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature, Earth Hour is a annual global event aimed at raising awareness of climate change. Households and businesses are encouraged to turn off all non-essential lights for one hour. Earth Hour 2013 takes place on Saturday, March 23 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Learn more here.
