A message from Brigitte Chiki, director, Student Services:

This past week, Niagara College hosted its first-ever Jumpstart camp in partnership with Canadian Tire Financial Services, financial sponsors of the camp. Canadian Tire Jumpstart is a national charitable program that helps financially disadvantaged kids participate in organized sport and recreation by helping to cover registration, equipment and/or transportation costs. Since its launch in 2005, Canadian Tire Jumpstart has given 473,792 kids across Canada the chance to play.

Fifty Jumpstart campers attended the Welland Campus the week of August 7-10 to participate in morning sports, wellness and fitness activities, followed by arts and craft workshops in the afternoon.

The week included swimming at the YMCA, a visit to the Children’s Safety Village, and a presentation by Welland Fire Services. Hosted and facilitated by the Niagara College Athletic Department, Jumpstart Niagara Academy would not have been possible without the direct support of key campus partners including: Part-Time Studies, SAC, the Recruitment Office, and Student Services.

How exciting it was for campers and planners alike to have Nicole Forrester, 2008 Canadian Olympian and Athlete Ambassador for Jumpstart, provide the closing keynote address, and be on hand to help distribute certificates to the campers.
