You are invited to join me and your colleagues for this year’s Niagara Day on Wednesday August 29th. For the first time we are holding this event at the new Welland Campus gym. Niagara Day is always a great way for us to reconnect as a learning community. It also marks the beginning of the academic year, welcoming a new group of students as well as those returning to complete their studies.
Niagara Day includes opportunities to recognize our colleagues who are receiving Service Awards, the Niagara Champions Award, Joint Health and Safety Award, and College Educator Development Program certificates. A highlight is the prestigious Awards of Excellence.
I am pleased to announce a special keynote speaker, Yvonne Camus, one of North America’s most trusted speakers on teamwork and performance. Camus was a participant in Discovery Channel’s Eco-Challenge, the world championship of adventure racing conceived by Mark Burnett of Survivor fame. Hers was the first rookie team to complete the grueling competition. She will share with us her insights and experiences on building on successes, finding the greatness in ourselves and our co-workers, and growing Niagara College as a truly inviting place for everyone.
This year’s Niagara Day will also feature the opportunity to be part of Niagara College history. Join us for our 3rd NC employee group photo to commemorate Niagara College’s 45th anniversary.
A great line-up of live music is planned, including a special duet. Doors open and refreshments will be available at 7:45 a.m. in the Welland Campus Gym. The program will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will be followed by lunch, served in the Learning Commons.
Please bring a non-perishable food item for the SAC food bank and remember to wear your name tag.
Finally, I encourage you to help us reach our sustainability goals. Please bring your refillable beverage containers for coffee and water and continue to challenge yourself to reduce the carbon footprint of your commute to the Welland Campus. Walk, carpool, take public transit or join Marc Nantel and Steve Hudson who will be cycling to fulfill their challenge from the Day of Reflection last May!
I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, August 29!
