Spring Convocation kicks off June 19

NC honours its largest-ever graduating class next week as more than 3,000 students receive diplomas, degrees and certificates at Spring Convocation.

The ceremonies take place at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus and run from Tuesday, June 19 to Friday, June 22 at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day.

The graduates will hear from an impressive list of distinguished business and community leaders, who will deliver convocation addresses and receives special honours from the College, including:


June 19

  • 10 a.m. James Knight, president and CEO, Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC). Knight will receive an Honorary Degree in Applied Studies;
  • 3 p.m. Glenn De Caire, Chief of Police, Hamilton Police Service. De Caire will receive an Honorary Diploma in Policing and Security.


June 20

  • 10 a.m. Judy Bullis, senior group publisher for Niagara, South Ontario Sun Media. Bullis will receive an Honorary Diploma in Media and Information Studies;
  • 3 p.m. Ron Shaw, owner, founder and president, R.A. Shaw Designs Ltd. Shaw will receive Niagara College’s Distinguished Alumni Award.


June 21

  • 10 a.m. Cam Heaps, co-founder, Steam Whistle Brewing. Heaps will receive an Honorary Diploma in Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management;
  • 3 p.m. Marilyn McHarg, executive director, Doctors Without Borders Canada. McHarg will receive an Honorary Diploma in Community and Health Studies.


June 22

  • 10 a.m. Zane DeSilva, Bermuda MP., president and CEO, Island Construction Services. DeSilva will receive an Honorary Degree in International Commerce and Global Development;
  • 3 p.m. Dragan Matovic, chairman and CEO, Halex Capital Inc. Matovic will receive an Honorary Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Spring Convocation also marks the first-ever graduating classes for Art and Design Fundamentals (Wednesday at 10 a.m.), Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management (Thursday at 10 a.m.), and the Retail Pharmacy Assistant, Palliative Care – Multidiscipline and Community Mental Health – Multidiscipline programs (all Thursday at 3 p.m.)
