Shelley’s event industry experiences span over 25+ years, including working for the City of Hamilton, as Events Coordinator & Manager liaising with community event organizers, in addition coordinating major international events’ teams. She also worked for McMaster University Athletics Dept. on a team coordinating athletic fundraising activities and alumni events.
Recently, while on PD leave from college, Shelley worked with the City of Hamilton, as the Pan Am Cultural Coordinator. She led a team in the planning and implementation of the arts and culture program in the host community for soccer, during the TO2015 Pan AM Games. The program, sixteen (16) days of festivities & cultural events, was a team effort in collaboration with stakeholders, partners, past Niagara College graduates and students on field placements.
The rewarding part of her teaching includes advising event management students on their newly created Many Hands Project ‘live’ events for Niagara Community non- profits. The past students’ events were successfully held, created awareness and raised money for many Niagara Region non- profit organizations. 2017, celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Many Hands Project event. In 2009, she had the opportunity to assist with coordinating the College committee for the Royal Visit, of HRH Prince of Wales opening of the Wine Visitor + Education Centre, together with students’ assistance. Shelley also shares her industry experiences with students, in the academic environment demonstrating applied hands-on learning.
She is a graduate of McMaster University and holds a CFEE designation from IFEA. She is a past board member of Niagara Food Festival, Festival and Events Ontario Association and International Special Events Society/International Live Events Association- Toronto Chapter. Shelley is also the recipient of Tourism Hamilton Awards and a Hall of Fame Inductee with Festivals and Events Ontario.
