Health, Wellness and Accessibility Services (HWAS) offers a diverse range of student services and supports that consists of Student Health Services (health care clinic), Counselling Services (counselling), and Accessibility Services (accommodation supports and services).
HWAS respects your privacy and treats your personal information as confidential. We are committed to keeping your personal information secure, use it only for the purposes we collect it (unless permitted by law) and share it with staff that may be supporting you in HWAS. We share your personal information with the Niagara College staff outside of HWAS on a need-to-know basis.
We collect your personal information to provide accessibility services and support your accommodation. If staff or faculty outside of HWAS need information about you to facilitate your academic accommodations, then HWAS staff will share the specific information needed to enable this. For example, we may share information required to implement accommodations or the fact that you have registered with Accessibility Services to confirm your eligibility for accommodations but would not share medical or disability-specific information.
We collect your personal health information to provide care and assist in the provision of care. We abide by health privacy legislation that permits us to share your personal information with health care professionals (both at the College and outside the College) for this purpose unless you specifically tell us to restrict our sharing.
The College has a duty to its community members to provide a safe environment and has processes to assess risk to the community and initiate an appropriate response. HWAS may disclose information about whether you are receiving supports from accessibility, health or counselling services and your medical needs to support this risk management activity.
