Leveraging Dream Big Funding and a partnership with the College of the North Atlantic, Niagara College co-hosted a first-of-its kind event for over 150 educators across Canada – including NC faculty – to learn about coaching in the classroom.
This professional development opportunity – Seachange in Coaching in Education – took place virtually March 21-22, giving faculty the chance to explore the connection between coaching practices and teaching. Through this unique learning opportunity, NC faculty were inspired to implement a coaching approach within their educational work with students, as it has been shown to support culturally inclusive forms of knowledge, curriculum and teaching pedagogy.
The event culminated a two-year pilot for NC faculty in the winter and fall of 2022 in which participants learned about coaching tools and practices through webinars, assignments, and one-one-one coaching. The agenda featured renowned keynote speakers Kevin Lamoureux and Dr. Michelle Pacansky-Brock among a line-up of other talented educators.
The Seachange in Coaching in Education event supported several areas of focus within the College’s Strategic Plan, including Wholistic Student Experience, Academic Excellence, Social Inclusion and Environmental Sustainability and Organizational Excellence.
Offered at no cost to NC faculty, funds raised from external ticket sales went towards a student bursary.
