You will develop an understanding of the cognitive processes of geospatial knowledge acquisition and examine current visualization techniques for geospatial data. Cartographic and Graphic theories are explored to develop an appreciation of effective map-making with an emphasis on 3D thematic mapping. You will also explore and develop skills in the areas of multimedia mapping, map animation, visualizing uncertainty and the development of 3D and virtual GIS using a variety of software including ESRI's 3D Analyst(ArcGlobe), Terragen, Google Earth/Sketch-Up.
