Apprentices follow the Ontario College of Trades curriculum for the trade of Welder and Metal Fabricator (Fitter). This course outlines safe material handling operations, Industrial Safety Acts and potential workplace hazards. The use of measuring, small hand and power tools in accordance with government safety regulations, manufacturer's recommendations and approved industry standards. Use of basic arithmetic, applied calculations, systems of measurements and basic geometry in accordance with the requirements for the welding and fabricating trades. Lessons will progress through classroom instruction, demonstration and participation. This course provides the apprentice with the building blocks required to advance their knowledge and understanding through on-the-job training.
