The Corporate Communications team is based out of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus at the Niagara Corporate Business Centre. Our staff travel regularly to meet clients at the Welland Campus.

We are responsible for the following services:

InsideNC
  • Corporate Communications writes and posts all content featured on Niagara College’s news website InsideNC. InsideNC features news articles from the College, announcements, NC news releases, media coverage, and event calendar geared to the Niagara College community.
  • InsideNC content has emphasis on events and major initiatives, achievements, and announcements from all areas of the NC.
  • The website is updated daily by communications staff and may be accessed 24/7 at: niagaracollege.ca/insidenc/
  • InsideNC articles are also linked to via MyNC.
  • InsideNC news content is also posted to Twitter at @InsideNC1.
  • Original content from InsideNC is also often shared via College’s social media channels @niagaracollege (operated by Marketing).

Employees who have  news, an upcoming event or initiative that they would like to be considered for InsideNC, should contact the Communications team member assigned to their program area / department. Announcements may also be submitted to [email protected].

Staff may submit events or key dates to be featured on the InsideNC and NC homepage events calendar.

Top News Email

A weekly email from Campus Update distributed to all Niagara College staff and select stakeholders featuring promos and links to all InsideNC posts from the week, also highlighting upcoming events on the InsideNC calendar.

Media Releases / News Releases
  • A communication distributed to media / news/ reporters regarding major news (events, initiatives, achievements) at Niagara College, aimed at gaining coverage by the media (news outlets, magazines, media websites, social media and other publications).
  • All information, statements and visuals sent as a media release may be published by the media.
  • All Niagara College media releases are written and distributed by Communication staff and go through an internal approval process prior to distribution.
  • Media releases also posted to the Niagara College website (News section) and InsideNC (News Releases).

Employees who have major news, an achievement, or an interesting/ new initiative in their area should contact the communications representative assigned to their program area/ department.

News leads given to Communications team members may be considered for a media release.

Media / News Advisories
  • Media advisories are distributed to media outlets (i.e. newspapers, magazines, publications, websites) with the purpose of making them aware, in advance, of a Niagara College event, photo op, that we are inviting them to attend, with the goal of generating media coverage.
  • All college media advisories must be written, distributed and approved by Corporate Communications staff.
  • Any events held on campus where the media is invited must go through the Communications department.

Employees who have an upcoming event in their program area/ department they would be interested in having the media attend/ cover should contact the communications representative assigned to their program area / department for consideration.

Campus Notice Emails

Campus Notice emails are distributed to College employees to make them aware of important, time-sensitive information.

MyNC Portal Announcements
  • Staff announcements and student announcements which are featured within the MyNC portal are approved by Corporate Communications.
  • Announcements generally include important on-campus information such as campus closures, services, parking information.

Submit an announcement to the MyNC Portal at http://ncbbnews.wpengine.com. Note: InsideNC news and story ideas are not accepted as announcements to the MyNC Portal.

Encore Magazine

Annual publication showcasing news highlights from the college, as well as features on selected The online magazine of Niagara College, showcasing news highlights from the college, as well as features on selected alumni, faculty, support staff. Encore can be accessed at encore.niagaracollege.ca.

Media Requests

Corporate Communications is responsible for handling all media requests at Niagara College – including requests for statements, interviews, or media photography or video on campus. Employees receiving a media request directly should forward the request to their Corporate Communications team member.

Events

While not the lead in the organization or logistics of College events, Corporate Communications supports events through the preparation of media materials, event coverage and speechwriting where required.

The Marketing Department is the primary contact for social media at Niagara College, overseeing the College’s main social channels, providing support and oversight to secondary channels, and ensuring that all College social media outlets represent the NC brand and our values.

Social media is a shared responsibility with Corporate Communications for information sharing, stakeholder engagement, and issues management. The Corporate Communications team manage the @InsideNC1 Twitter account.

Staff who are planning major events in their area should inform the Communications team member for their area to discuss details, and how the event can best be promoted, covered and supported.
