Work on the 49,000 square foot Gymnasium, Fitness Centre and Agri-food Research Complex at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus continues. In early December 2017, 14 trucks poured almost 200 tonnes of concrete as workers laid the floor for the 6,000 square-foot gym. When complete, the Complex will also house classrooms, research space and a food-processing lab. Work is set to wrap up this summer.
Visitors to the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus will notice a flurry of activity next to the Wine Visitor and Education Centre as construction progresses on the new 2,500 square-foot Teaching Distillery. When complete, the facility will allow students in NC’s Artisan Distilling program access to the latest technologies available for small batch fermentation and distillation processes. Beginning Fall 2018, the program will draw additional benefits from being located at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus, including state-of-the art science labs, rich agricultural land featuring 32 acres of grapes and 2 acres of hops, an on-site Apiary, and the Teaching Winery and Teaching Brewery Retail and Production facilities.
Construction on the Teaching Distillery began December 2017 and is scheduled for completion prior to classes beginning in Fall 2018.
