This session is a great opportunity to build your understanding and your ability to be support and advocate for those with LDs in our school and in the community.<\/p>\n<p>The Learning Disabilities Association of the Niagara Region (LDANR) presents an overview of what Learning Disabilities feel and look like in the college classroom. They will explore the journey that students undertake to be successful while managing the challenges they encounter.<\/p>\n<p>This session is designed to be inclusive for all staff and students who want to learn more.<\/p>\n<p>The session is being offered virtually through Microsoft Teams. The challenge is intended to help:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Build familiarity with the Generative AI Guide and the Teaching at NC resources<\/li>\n<li>Expand GenAI familiarity and skills<\/li>\n<li>Apply GenAI tools in new ways to support teaching and learning<\/li>\n<li>Build community among faculty and staff working with GenAI tools<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> <\/p>\n<p>Challenge information, resources, and tasks will be sent out every two weeks, starting the week of October 5. Challenge tasks will be available at two levels to meet different levels of experience and comfort with GenAI.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Explorer:<\/strong>\u00a0You\u2019re\u00a0new to AI, cautious about its use, or concerned about how to use it well in your teaching.\u00a0You\u2019d\u00a0like to know how it can support student learning and be used\u00a0effectively\u00a0and responsibly in your teaching practice and in the classroom.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Practitioner:<\/strong>\u00a0You\u2019ve\u00a0used AI before and would like to learn about some new tools and try some different things in your teaching.\u00a0You\u2019re\u00a0looking for opportunities to\u00a0build your skills\u00a0and to better support students in their own GenAI use.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> <\/p>\n<p>Participants will be able to choose which level task they work on for each section of the challenge, or are free to try both options. Participants come together virtually to discuss key impressions of the selected resource and reflect on how the themes explored in the resource relate to our lived experiences as educators. Join colleagues from Niagara, Fanshawe, Lambton, and St. Clair Colleges in a guided conversation to discuss your insights and reflections on the resource below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This conversation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Supporting students and maintaining high expectations are sometimes treated as competing priorities. If we extend a deadline, are we being compassionate or lowering expectations? If we hold firm to a standard, are we supporting student development or failing to recognize the realities students are navigating?<\/p>\n<p>The concept of the warm demander offers another way to think about this tension. Warm demanders combine genuine care, trust, and belief in students with high expectations and a willingness to challenge them.
