Best Pitch Perfect Winners from Niagara College

On April 18, 2018 the entrepreneurship contest Pitch Perfect took place at the Southbrook Vineyards in Niagara on the Lake. It was such a great environment for Niagara College student entrepreneurs who for a chance to win presented their ideas before a panel of judges that included Mishka Balsom, President and CEO of the Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce (GNCC), Matt Goch, Small Business Advisor with Meridian Credit Union, and Niagara College’s dean of Business, Hospitality and Environment Vivian Kinnaird.

Congratulations go to the winning team, Auto Girls: Alexandra I, Ivgeniia Kalinina, Aleksandra Frolova, and Maksym Skakun for their innovative business idea to open a female auto shop that will serve an increasing population of female drivers. Auto Girls received a $3,000 award from event sponsor, Meridian Credit Union to advance their idea.

The team that won the “Best in Niagara” award consisted of Business Administration-Marketing  students James Sanchez, Anton Buist, Hayley Parker, and Cameron Tharby for their Date-in-a-Box idea for a dating app that connects users with local Niagara businesses like wineries and other tourist destinations.

One of these teams will now be moving onto the Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce’s Ignite Niagara Pitch Series on Tuesday, May 8th .

At Niagara College, our mission is to provide outstanding applied education and training for a changing world. In support of this, each year several entrepreneurship classes in the School of Business hold a “Dragon’s Den” style business pitch competition at the Niagara-on-the-Lake campus. Research shows that participation in contests such as these increases students’ attitude towards entrepreneurship and creates an opportunity for local businesses to promote themselves as supportive partners of local endeavours.
