Kit for the NC Board of Governor Student Governor position is <strong>Friday<\/strong> <strong>February 13<\/strong>, at <strong>4:00 p.m.<\/strong> <strong>EST<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Campaigning will begin on <strong>Monday, March 9, 2026<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The online election will take place from <strong>Monday, March 16<\/strong> to <strong>Thursday, March 19, 2026<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n\r\n<div class=\"alert is-style-info ileft\">\r\n\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"alert-inner\">\r\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"introduction nob g l\">\r\n   The Niagara College Board of Governors has adopted a Policy Governance model of operation.<\/div>\r\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Policy Governance<\/strong> is an operating system that efficiently focuses boards on their unique contribution to the organization\u2019s results.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.niagaracollege.ca\/boardofgovernors\/bylaws\/#ref-1\">1<\/a><\/sup> Although the Board is ultimately accountable for everything the College does and does not do, the Board\u2019s owner-representative authority is best employed by operating as an undivided unit, prescribing organizational ends, but only limiting staff means, making all its decisions using the principle of policies descending in size. The model enables extensive empowerment to staff while preserving controls necessary for accountability. It provides a values-based foundation for discipline, a framework for precision delegation, and a long-term focus on what the organization is <em>for more than what it does<\/em>.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.niagaracollege.ca\/boardofgovernors\/bylaws\/#ref2\">2<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The principles guide decision-making through four categories of policy:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list is-style-arrows\">\n<li><strong>Ends:<\/strong> Organizational products and outcomes. These policies succinctly state the \u201cbottom line\u201d for which an organization exists: What Results? For Whom? At What Cost?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Executive Limitations:<\/strong> Define the boundaries of latitude and authority the board vests in the CEO and staff. While Policy Governance does not dictate what the degree of delegation is to be, it enables boards to articulate with absolute clarity the CEO\u2019s decision-making authority. As a result, there\u2019s no confusion as to whether something is a board vs. staff decision.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Governance Process:<\/strong> The board defines its own task, and how it will be carried out. All of the collective and individual expectations of directors, officers and board committees are clarified.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Board-Staff Relationship:<\/strong> How power is delegated, and its proper use monitored.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In each policy category, the Board starts with a statement that expresses its broadest values, and then moves down level by level to express itself more specifically. At whatever level the board feels it has said enough, the President is free to act on \u2018any reasonable interpretation of the Board\u2019s Ends and Executive Limitations policies and the Chair is free to act on \u2018any reasonable interpretation\u2019 of the board\u2019s Governance Process and Board-Management Relationship policies.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n\t<div><a href=\"#top\" class=\"lorem\">\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Lora Tisi has over 30 years experience as an International Retailer, leading several Brands business, market share, revenue and profit growth.<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, as President of the RW&amp;CO Brand for Reitmans Canada Limited, delivering 18 Consecutive quarters of sales and margin growth. Menswear results were particularly strong, with Brand collaboration with NHL Superstars, such as PK Subban, Erik Karlsson, Morgan Reilly and Mark Schieffele, resulting in significant sales and market share increases across both genders.<\/p>\n<p>In 2000, Lora became President of American Eagle Outfitters and launched the brand across Canada. The team was successful with the brand launch, opening 46 stores, coast to coast in 108 days, exceeding first year profit targets, and becoming the &#8220;Brand of Choice&#8221; for Canadian teens.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to American Eagle, Lora spent 17 years building the four banner, two country, 900 store chain, The Northern Group. By leveraging the marquis brand, Northern Reflections, total sales grew to C$1Billion. This role included monitoring and advising partners in the firm with respect to accounting for Not-for-profits and Public Sector Accounting standards<br \/>\nJanet has lived in St. Catharines since 1981 and has been actively involved in the community since then, volunteering for a significant number of not-for-profit organizations, including Gillian\u2019s Place, the United Way of St. Catharine and District and Niagara Health System.<\/p>\n<p>Janet holds a B.Math from the University of Waterloo and has her CPA designation. His long-standing involvement with some of the most influential organizations in Ontario and across Canada reflects his expertise, dedication, and the high regard in which he is held by his peers.<\/p>\n<p>Klaus studied the technical trades of viticulture and oenology and in 1984 was accepted to the most prestigious winemaking school in the world, the Geisenheim Institute. After graduating in 1987, Klaus moved to Niagara-On-The-Lake. She also spearheaded a major marketing campaign to drive home the value of a college education and established a Board governance leadership program for the college system.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Linda was the CEO of the Wine Council of Ontario. There, she worked with government to change legislation that dramatically improved the economics of the industry. Prior to joining the Wine Council, Linda was a writer and communications specialist whose career included time as a consultant, five years as the head of communications for a regulatory body and heading up a department charged with meeting the communications needs of MPPs at Queen\u2019s Park. In addition, he was the CEO of the Niagara College Foundation, responsible for leading the College\u2019s fundraising efforts.<\/p>\n<p>From September 2011 to June 2012, Sean served as Niagara College\u2019s interim vice president, Academic, with responsibility for all academic operations of the College, including programs, pathways and educational development, research and innovation, and the College\u2019s learning enterprises.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2014, Sean has served as vice president, and most recently as senior vice president, International, leading the College\u2019s global engagement and rapidly growing international activities, including international partnerships and student mobility, student recruitment and services, English Language programs, and overseas projects, campuses and training.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to joining Niagara College, Sean was dean of students, and then associate vice president, Student Services and International Education at Red Deer College in Alberta. After serving as a student leader with the Students\u2019 Union, Sean held various roles at the University of Alberta from 1990 to 2000, including director of the Student Ombudservice and director, Undergraduate Student Services in the Faculty of Education.<\/p>\n<p>Recognized as a leader in international education and student services in Canada, Sean has served on the board of directors of the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) and a number of international advisory committees. He has also served as chair of the Colleges Ontario Student Access and Success Coordinating Committee, and as co-moderator of the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities Summit on Mental Health and Addictions.<\/p>\n<p>Active in the community, Sean has served on the boards of the Business Education Council of Niagara, Niagara Sport Commission, Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce, St. Catharines-Thorold Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Niagara.<br \/>\nSean holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alberta and a Master of Public Administration from Queen\u2019s University, and is currently completing his Doctoral studies in leadership in higher and adult education and comparative, international and development education at the University of Toronto.<\/p>\n<p>A sports and outdoors enthusiast, Sean holds a Level III National Coaching Certification in cross-country skiing.
