Niagara College is an approved test centre for the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) and the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA). Qualified welder instructors are on site. Welder testing costs includes on-campus parking and 2 hours of practice time.

Professional proctoring and exam invigilation services are offered to the community and third parties through the Niagara College Test Centre. Visit the Test Centre web section or call ext. 7589.

CWB Testing

Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) - Stick
Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) - MIG
Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW)
All position - 4 plates
Carbon steel

TSSA Groove Welds and Fillet Welds (Pipe and Plate)

Pipe test - high pressure
Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) - Stick
Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) - MIG
Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW)
Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) - TIG
Carbon steel

The Welder Testing facility is located at the Niagara College Welland Campus at 300 Woodlawn Road, Welland. The Welding Shop is located in the Mackenzie Building in Room M01.

NOTE - Payment is required in advance

CWB is responsible for final decisions on all testing. Candidates are allowed 1 hour maximum per position. CWB Testing per person cost as follows:

(CWB) Canadian Welding Bureau	1 Position (1 plate)	2 Position (2 plates)	3 Position (3 plates)	4 Position (4 plates)
Cost per plate or per position for Destructive Testing	$125.00	$250.00	$375.00	$500.00
FCAW - Flux Cored Arc Welding	$150.00 per position

TSSA is responsible for final decisions on all testing. TSSA Testing per person cost as follows:

(TSSA) Technical Standards and Safety Authority	Pipe Test
Sched 80 2" pipe in 6G	$365.00
Sched 80 6" pipe in 6G	$365.00

You must bring your payment receipt AND the following equipment with you on test day:

safety boots and glasses
welding shield
welding gloves
chipping hammer
wire brush
leather sleeves or jacket
ball peen hammer
mini grinder with wire wheel (CWB)
grinding disk
cold chisel

Test Results

Test results are mailed to Niagara College in 2-4 weeks. When they are received, you will be notified. After that time, you will make arrangements to pick them up personally. Your results will be in the form of a Welder Test Record from the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) or Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA).
