When and where are closures announced?
The safety of staff, students and the public will be the key factor in any decision to cancel College operations. For daytime closures, information, including affected campuses and services, will be posted on the College web site, typically prior to 7 a.m. Closures after the start of classes will be announced as they occur, and evening closures will be announced between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
- When College operations are interrupted due to inclement weather or other similar circumstances, the homepage, the news page, and social media channels (Facebook, Twitter) will be the main source of closure information.
- Announcements will be made through Niagara College Voicemail for those who call the Switchboard. Closure announcements will also be distributed to local media outlets, including these local radio stations:
- Students should consult Blackboard for information regarding class-specific situations, off-campus assignments or field-trips scheduled for the date of closure. Visit the Test Centre’s webpage on Make Up/Missed Tests for more information on missed tests and/or exams due to weather, illness, or other extenuating circumstances.
- Closure information will also be sent out via SMS, email, and/or via automated phone call, if you are signed up for our opt-in urgent notification system.

Niagara College has an urgent notification system called NCALERT which sends out SMS text messages, emails and automated phone calls with urgent (ex. closure) or emergency (ex. lockdown) information. Our 2nd notification system, NCBB, can send out alerts about changes and notifications to your Blackboard courses. Both NCALERT and NCBB are opt-in services.
