First Nation Student Services
Niagara College is firmly committed to developing new and better ways to meet the growing needs of Aboriginal students and has therefore worked diligently to develop a strong partnership with the Aboriginal community.

An First Nations Student Services offers resources for anyone wishing to learn more about Aboriginal culture and heritage. Support services, a study/lounge and meeting space are available for student use.

Food Services
Hot meals and a wide variety of prepared snacks are available from the cafeterias at the Welland Campus and at the NOTL Campus.

Tim Hortons kiosks are located at both the Welland Campus and NOTL Campus. Vending machines are located throughout the College buildings

Graduate Services – The Job Centre
Graduate Services is your connection to employers and the world of work. The on-the-job performance and excellent reputation of past graduates as they enter the workplace has ensured that companies, agencies and other organizations return to the College to recruit each year.

Entrepreneurs and owners of newly established ventures also look to Niagara for the up-to-date, enthusiastic and capable staff required for success. Students and graduates are encouraged to take advantage of the wide range of job search assistance and job opportunities available.

As you prepare to graduate we offer:

  • Individual employment and career planning advice.
  • Assistance with interview techniques and job search strategies.
  • Resume/cover letter review.
  • On-line job postings.
  • Student resource areas with free access to computers, phone, fax and internet.

Special recruitment events including Career Fairs and more.

Health Services
Professional medical services are offered, including first aid, immunization, preventive health care, sexual health issues and resources, referral to community resources, assistance with chronic medical conditions. Temporary sick bays and Doctor’s Clinics are provided at each campus.

To further support students’ drug and medical service needs, a mandatory health and drug plan is in place for full-time post-secondary students. Part-time students may participate on an opt-in basis.

Housing Boards
The Student Administrative Council maintains housing boards that list available off campus accommodations provided by area residents serving both campus locations – Welland, and Niagara-on-the-Lake (St. Catharines).

Students should seek housing as early as possible. Due to the changing nature of the information, it cannot be mailed out.

Prices for accommodation vary, but here are some approximate examples:

  • $100 per week for a furnished room with board
  • $80 per week for a furnished room with kitchen privileges
  • $400 to $600 per month for apartments.

The Job Centre

The Job Centre is here to help you put your education to work! Niagara College students, graduates and local youth are encouraged to take advantage of the wide range of on-line and on-campus job search assistance.

Niagara College has Job Centres at each campus offering the following job-finding resources:

  • One-on-one job search assistance.
  • Workshops to help you get a job.
  • Access to job postings and on-line job banks.
  • Resume tutors, printing and photocopying services.
  • Free access to computers, phone, fax and internet.
  • Space and privacy for telephone and video conference interviews.
  • Special recruitment events including Career and Job Fairs.

International Student Services
International students studying under a student visa receive a wide range of special services provided by the International Education department.

Airport pick-ups, arranging accommodations, orientation to the community, assistance with banking and health insurance are some of the many personalized services provided. There are no additional charges for these services other than paying third parties, for example, the mandatory health insurance.

International students have full access to all college facilities including the learning resource centres, computer labs, campus store, cafeteria, clubs and the student centres.

Many students play college-sponsored sports as outlined in the athletics section. As a result, they have the opportunity to make friends with Canadian students and join them in their daily activities.

Special activities such as field trips and social gatherings are regularly planned for our international students. Special tutors and conversation partners are arranged for international students so that they may enjoy the company and assistance of English-speaking students their own age.

Because students come to the College from around the world, there is a good mix of languages, cultures and interests that makes studying at Niagara College a truly rewarding experience.

Libraries – Learning Resource Centres
Learning Resource Centres are located at the College's major campuses. Staff are available to assist students to find books for loan, journal articles for research papers and media materials for presentations. Library tours are scheduled early in the academic year.

The College's collection of 50,000 books is supplemented by 600 print journal subscriptions, 3,000 full text on-line journals, 1,000 e-books, CD-ROM databases, media items, government documents and microfilm. Students can reserve camcorders, VCRs, LCD projectors, and digital cameras for class presentations.

Computers are available for Internet searching. There are areas for quiet study, group work, media viewing and laptop connections. Visit www.niagarac.on.ca/lrc for off-campus access to services and resources.
