Niagara Research is home to applied research at Niagara College. Applied research is broadly defined as the application of new or existing knowledge to solve practical real-world problems and advance the goals of our community.

The role of Niagara Research is to provide real world solutions for business, industry and the community through applied research and development activities.

Niagara Research, in partnership with local business and the community, conducts applied research projects that provide solutions to community, and global issues.

Research activities are administered through the Research and Innovation Division and are conducted by faculty and staff experts, guided by our Vision, Mission and Objectives as well as the Niagara College Research Plan.

Students are one of the main methods of the College’s transfer of knowledge to business and industry partners through applied research projects, work placements, and as skilled and knowledgeable graduates.

Research and Innovation Division

The Research and Innovation Division coordinates the applied research activities of Niagara College, including:

  • Serving as the primary college contact for granting agencies and councils at the federal, provincial, or municipal level
  • Acquiring and administering research grants and contracts
  • Conducting outreach activities and participating on relevant committees to determine business and industry applied research needs and priorities and assess how the College may provide assistance and solutions
  • Managing intellectual property issues
  • Developing and managing the start-up of applied research centres at Niagara College
  • Acting as a single point of entry for inquiries from business, industry and the community related to applied research
