Niagara College Orientation Days

First impressions last a long time!

Niagara College recognizes the importance of a memorable start to each student's college experience. First-year students are invited to participate in our annual Orientation event that includes program information sessions, SAC sessions and campus tours.

Highlights for '09 - Sept. 8-9th

Number one in student satisfaction

my NC Passport:
When you get your Orientation Bag you will also receive a Passport. Simply fill out the information required and visit the specified locations to collect your stamps. Drop your ballot off at your InfoCentre for a chance to win a Samsung ST-50 with 4 gig high speed card included!

Vendor's Village:
Check-out our second annual Vendor's Village. Watch out for vendors such as PizzaPizza, Bell, Henna Designs, martial arts, TD Bank and Noise at Niagara.

Grand Prizes:

In addition to the cool bag that each first-year student receives you will also have a chance to fill out a ballot and win one of two grand prizes.

First-Year Student Life Cash Upgrade

Give your Niagara College experience a boost with an additional $2,000.

Cash Life Upgrade

All first-year students are invited to enter this draw for a $2,000 cash prize to be drawn on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at the concert stage at the Welland Campus. Winning is as easy as 1,2,3…

  1. Must be a registered first-year student with a valid Niagara College ID.
  2. Must fill out a ballot during the afternoon Orientation concert and festivities at the Welland Campus. Pick up your ballot at the concert stage or the library, and then return the filled out ballot to either the concert stage or library before 4:00 p.m.
  3. Must be present to win with your Niagara College Student ID. Names will be selected during the concert around 4:30 p.m.

***Winner will receive the first instalment of $1,000 on October 1, 2009 and second instalment of $1,000 on February 1st 2010.

Grand Prize #2 - Sept. 9th, Brought to you by SAC

One lucky student will win an electric bike to get around town in an environmentally friendly way.

This prize is open to both 1st year and returning students. Simply fill out a ballot (located all over both campuses, including Ontario Street) and enter to win! Prize includes a helmet and raincover. Prize will be drawn on Wednesday, September 9th at the concert stage at the Welland Campus. The winner’s name will be announced around 9 p.m.

Things to Do

Get your Orientation Bag and SAC Handbook when you arrive on campus in the morning on the 8th. Go to your main entrances and/or near the cafeteria foyer at both Niagara-on-the-Lake and Welland campuses for pick up.

Program Information Sessions:
Program Information Sessions take place on the first day of orientation.

Photo ID:
Your photo ID allows you access to the gym, library services, photocopying and printing services, computer lab services and your regional bus pass.

Don't wait in line - get your photo ID ahead of time! Simply visit the link below and follow the instructions for submitting your photo online. Then just pick it up at your InfoCentre and avoid those long waits during the first week of school!

Text Books, Supplies & Parking Permits
Make sure you register for a parking pass online via the Student Portal for the coming year. Parking is free during the first week of school. You can purchase all of your supplies and pick up parking permits at the Campus Store.

Get Connected @ Niagara
Visit the labs to learn how to access your Computer ID, log on for the first time, create your personal portal, access your timetables and so on. Drop into the lab in S109 at the Welland Campus or in N201/N202 at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus throughout Orientation Week for assistance!

OSAP Student Loan Pick-up
For information about OSAP distribution times and what you need to bring with you, please see the OSAP Distribution web section.

Open Gym / Varsity Try-Outs:
Gyms and fitness centres are open to all students with their Photo ID. (Subject to availability around scheduled class time.) This is a great opportunity to meet people from other programs or cities.

Open tryouts for varsity athletic teams will begin during the first two weeks of school. Beach volleyball is also available all week at the Welland Campus. Visit the Athletic Department at your campus for details.

Transportation Between Campuses

Are you a student that will be attending your Program Information Session at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus? Not to worry, you won’t miss out on any of the fun!

Several busses will be leaving the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus to bring students to the Welland Campus to enjoy the bands and movie. This is a great opportunity to meet a wide variety of Niagara College students from different campuses, programs, and cities.

Busses will run from Niagara-on-the-Lake to Welland between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. on the 8th, also between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. in order to view the movie. Students can return to Niagara-on-the-Lake at 5:00 p.m. or after the movie at 10:30 p.m.

Busses will also run on the 9th from Niagara-on-the-Lake to Welland at 6:00 p.m. Students can return to Niagara-on-the-Lake at 10:30 p.m.
